AIADMK Minister Hits Out at Kamal Haasan, Says Politics is Not a Film

Chennai: Superstar Kamal Haasan is facing the ire of several ministers in Tamil Nadu ever since he made allegations of corruption against the government. This time senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar targeted the actor-filmmaker for expressing his political ambitions.

Recently, Haasan has said that he is ready to contest polls if the election is held within the next 100 days. The South Indian superstar gave a clear indication about his entry into politics. The actor’s statement has courted a new controversy.

The Tamil Nadu minister on Tuesday lashed out at Haasan, saying politics was not a movie.

“Kamal (Haasan) thinks politics is a movie which runs for 100 days. Is the chief minister’s post some kind of a toy that can be purchased from the market. People should recognize, people should accept,” said the state fisheries minister.

Jayakumar, gave the example of thespian Sivaji Ganesan and said, “Sivaji Ganesan started a political party but he could not even become an MLA. Crowds cannot be the mere yardstick. All that crowd should convert as votes.”

Jayakumar also launched a counter-attack on Haasan for his comments on Twitter, especially those against the ruling AIADMK. “You should be among the people, not just on Twitter,” said the minister.

Last week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had met the actor at his Chennai residence. The meeting has triggered speculation of a new political alignment in the state.
